Roadmap
This is not a joke. This is not a drill. This is an actual plan to initiate an inclusive, transparent and peaceful cultural revolution, championing LOVE, FAIRNESS & SCIENCE
Phase One: Planning & Recruiting
Goal: 1,000 members, 100 volunteers
Recruit members and inspire as many as possible to volunteer
Produce engaging and informative content that explains Optimalism and United Humans in a variety of ways (including approachable high-level explanations and deep dives into important topics) to publish on all major social media platforms and in multiple languages
Form a committee to write the first draft of the United Humans Constitution and to establish a set of evidence-based Collective Decision-Making Protocols
Form additional committees to develop proposals for:
Re-establishing Shared Reality–we need to hold public figures, the media and social media to higher standards of honesty and integrity
Reinvigorating Science–if we’re basing our decision-making on science, we need to make it more accessible and less biased
Reprioritizing the Environment–between climate change, the loss of habitats and biodiversity, our ecosystem needs urgent attention
Redesigning Democracy–existing technology makes direct democracy feasible, so why do we need politicians?
Reworking Money–our current financial system incentivizes predatory practices that increase wealth inequality
Replacing Capitalism–it’s possible to design an economic paradigm that isn’t a zero sum game, where every transaction is win-win
Rethinking the State–what kind of public institutions do we need, at what levels, to support the United Humans Constitution?
Publish first drafts of the above, in multiple languages, for public review and feedback
Phase Two: Research & Development
Goal: 1 million members, 100,000 volunteers
Continue to recruit members, expanding the committees and forming a large population sample for research and polling
Continue producing content to make the case for Optimalism and to educate audiences on the goals and progress of United Humans
Iterate on the collective decision-making protocols as the size of the organization scales, to ensure fair representation and measurably optimal outcomes
Develop or adopt a social media platform that is inclusive and unbiased, with tools for collaboration, surveys and crowd-sourced fact checking
Create new committees, tasked with studying all areas of human and ecological well-being, proposing appropriate rules and regulations
Conduct experiments and simulations to test and iterate all proposed rules and regulations, and to evaluate and resolve conflicting priorities
Educate members and the wider population on the evolving Optimalist methodologies and encourage members to vote on proposals being considered
Conduct experiments and simulations to test and iterate potential strategies for deploying these new social, economic and political paradigms (to be implemented in Phase Three)
Publish the first, ratified, versions of the complete set of documents that define the formation and function of the new systems of social, political and economic governance being proposed
Establish a protocol for regularly evaluating and if necessary, updating and republishing the Constitution and the above mentioned documents
Phase Three: Mobilize & Deploy
Goal: 1 billion members, 100 million volunteers
Following are four possible strategies for turning the principles of Optimalism into law at a global level. Better and more specific plans are likely to emerge during Phases One and Two.
1. Found a United Humans political party in all democratic countries
By being a global party, United Humans will overcome the credibility issues that new political parties typically face
Each party runs on a platform of establishing—or modifying—the respective country’s Constitution to align with that of the global United Humans organization
In the worst case, the very existence of these parties will change the national conversation and maybe even influence policy
In the best case, once one party gets into parliament anywhere, it will further boost the credibility of all the sister parties and trigger a snowball effect that eventually leads to most democratic nations adopting an Optimalist Constitution
Countries that do not initially choose to adopt Optimalism will be encouraged, through trade agreements and economic sanctions, to do so
But even if only a small number of countries adopt Optimalism, it’ll have a huge positive impact
2. Deploy policies in a piecemeal, but strategic fashion, around the world
Analyze the social and political landscape in all democratic countries with a view to determining which of the Optimalist policies that have been developed in earlier phases each country might be ready to adopt
Tailor policies, if necessary, to the local conditions and transparently lobby both the public and politicians to see them implemented
In the best case, this may initiate a snowball effect with popular Optimalism-branded initiatives that boost the chances of future Optimalist initiatives being adopted
At a minimum, the discussion of Optimalist ideas in the public sphere is a positive
3. Found a parallel global political and economic infrastructure
Create a new Optimalist currency that functions as a medium of exchange and store of value, but not as a speculative financial instrument
Encourage use of the Optimalist currency for trade between individuals and organizations that embrace Optimalism
Found each of the institutions of global Optimalist governance and task them with –
transparently assessing the same information available to existing governments
publishing recommended courses of action based on their findings
tracking the outcomes of government decisions compared with the anticipated results of the recommendations
If sufficient trust has been earned by these parallel institutions to influence governments to adopt Optimalist principles, then there may not be any need for an abrupt transition
However, if those in power resist, it may be plausible for Optimalists to agree on a date to cease using legacy currencies at all, stripping the holdouts of their wealth and power
4. Found a religion around Optimalist ideals and sue for the right to practice it
Most countries’ laws confer special privileges on religious practices that are denied to secular practices, so it’s worth considering founding a religion in order to benefit from those same privileges
Such an Optimalist religion would enshrine the principles and practice of Optimalism, including
universal human equality—past, present and future
fair treatment for all humans and our ecosystems
promoting scientific consensus in all decision-making
Target the industries and institutions that are most antithetical to Optimalist progress, such as
natural resource extraction
fossil fuels and dirty energy
industrial agriculture
exploitative financial institutions
for-profit healthcare, education, prisons, etc
Launch litigations, arguing that these industries and institutions violate Optimalists’ rights to freely practice their religion
Appeal all the way to the highest court in every country, if necessary
It’s as simple as that!
OK, it’s not simple. Or easy. But it’s actually not impossible. It will just require a lot of humans, united, to make it happen.
